For our first issue we composed
a cover spread that reflects both our publication
and intelligent, insightful and involved women in
the Seattle area.

Francia Recalde teaches
Spanish at The Bush School. She has an academic background
in anthropology and literature, as well as Spanish,
and she is also a parent and a poet.
Camin Richert
Bell is a dance instructor at Dance Time in
Kirkland. She also performs and choreographs modern
dance, and was a founder of Rockerhopper Dance Company.
She is originally from Overland Park, Kansas and lives
with her husband and two dogs.
Paola Maranan
is executive director of the Children's Alliance and
a member of the board of directors for ArtsCorp. She
is an adoptee and has a 9-year-old adopted daughter.
Paola is married to her high school sweetheart.
Marita Jean Holdaway
is the owner and curator of the Benham Gallery, known
for fine art photography. Since opening the gallery
at 1216 First Ave. in Seattle, Holdaway has become
one of the city's best-known advocates of the arts.

Beth Scott
is the owner of Head Dress Hair Design. She has been
with her domestic partner, Elizabeth, for 14 years,
and they have two young sons.
Eva Chiu
is president and founder of InfoAdvantage, a Web consulting
firm that helps clients accelerate revenues and market
share with Internet technologies. She is also president
of Woman Business Owners, and has served on the Northwest
Entrepreneur Network board for 10 years. Her favorite
place is with her husband and two sons at a vacation
home on Hood Canal.
Marja Brandon
is the founding head of the Seattle Girls' School.
A graduate of Wellesley College, and the Harvard University
Graduate School of Education, Marja has spent years
as a teacher, administrator, and consultant at other
independent schools.
Nancy Eitreim
is president of the Seattle League of Women Voters
and has been a volunteer with the organization for
30 years. She has worked as a probation officer, television
public affairs specialist, and a development director.
She has two grown children and one grandchild.
Judith Hightower
was elected Seattle Municipal Court judge through
a write-in campaign in November 1990. She is a graduate
of the University of Washington and the Seattle University
School of Law. She has two grown children.
Donna Sakson
is president and CEO of Sakson & Taylor, Inc.,
a leading provider of content development, learning
solutions, knowledge management, and Web design and
development. She is a co-founder of Washington Women
for Choice and a member of More Ants than Elephants.
She has a 7-year-old daughter.

Kathy Riemann
is a stay-at-home mother of two boys ages 4 and 7.
Her older son was adopted from China exactly a year
ago. Kathy is also a dedicated volunteer with the
Washington chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
